# Turn a page into a recipe

Canonical: https://docs.cooksaffron.com/scan-and-photos/

Give handwritten cards and saved screenshots a place in your collection.

## Scan a recipe

Tap + and choose scan. Place the page on a contrasting surface in even light. Keep the full page inside the camera frame and avoid shadows across handwriting. Capture additional pages in recipe order; scanning supports up to 10 pages.

## Use existing photos

Choose photos for a recipe already in your library. Select up to 10 images in reading order. Include the title, full ingredient list, directions, and any notes; crop out unrelated text when practical.

## Review recognized text

Check the recognized text before continuing. Pay particular attention to fractions, decimal points, handwritten abbreviations, and oven temperatures. Correct unclear lines rather than guessing. Rescan a sharper, brighter image if too much is missing.

## Keep the original handy

Text recognition helps with transcription; it cannot guarantee the meaning of every handwritten mark. Review the finished recipe against the original, especially quantities and instructions.
